Buescher and Bastrop State Park in Texas

Chris: We are making our way back to the Austin area which included rides through the fabulous Buescher and Bastrop State Parks.  All the camp sites were secluded from each other which made it a very nice place to camp.

In 2011, 96 percent of Bastrop State Park was destroyed by fire and heavy rains caused a dam to fail in 2015.
David rode with me for about 10 miles and then turned back to get the car.  After he left I saw very few cars and no other bikers. From time to time I just stopped and reveled in the silence and beauty.  I felt like I was on top of the world after some serious bike climbs and was dripping with sweat even though it was a cool, windy day.  Stunning beauty…

We stayed overnight with friends Don and Ann Miller and got a great tour of the area.  What a nice change to stay in their lovely home and sleep in a real bed.  Oh, and the barbecue!  So delicious!  We are having the richest of experiences on this trip.  Sometimes it’s a little overwhelming because we want to savor the interactions but they just keep coming so fast and furious and we can’t properly absorb everything we want to remember about this once in a lifetime trip.
