David: I drove tractor trailer in my earlier days. I have a lot of
respect for the tonnage a big rig carries, and the people who handle
those rigs with skill and care.
This morning, the “Wide Load” advance pickup truck pulled alongside us
and stopped. “You’re going to want to be careful,” he said. “We’ve got a
couple
Trucks coming up behind you hauling 400,000 pounds. They’ll take up the whole road.”
Nuff said. We got off and waited. Took a couple videos, one when the first came over the hill, the other one after they started up again after a test stop.
The two young drivers were hauling a stamping machine to the Lucid automobile plant at Casa Grande in New Mexico. They have delivered 4, with 7 more to go. They left Houston 4 days ago. They map out the back roads that are wide enough for their load, sleep where they can, and employ a great deal of skill and patience.
Wow, David. How do you find out all this stuff? You've got a gift!
ReplyDeleteWe had to pull over on the road to let them all pass and then they stopped ahead of us so we were all on the road together in the middle of nowhere! David went over and struck up a conversation. Like he does.
